Why BrainDojo is so important?

Have you ever wondered what sets humans apart from other species?

One major factor is our prefrontal cortex—the part of the brain that is crucial for complex thinking, decision-making, and self-control. It’s this well-developed prefrontal cortex that has elevated humanity to its current ecological niche on the planet. But here’s the exciting part: the prefrontal cortex can be trained and strengthened. By exercising it regularly, we can improve our performance in academics, work, sports—essentially in every aspect of life.

Now, let’s talk about hands. In many ways, our hands function like an “external brain.” If you’ve ever seen a homunculus diagram, you know our hands and fingers occupy a disproportionately large area of the motor and sensory cortex. This suggests that using our hands is critically important for engaging our brain. Think about it: our fingers are the ultimate pointing devices, and when we write or interact using our fingers, we stimulate our brains in a far more direct and impactful way than we might realize.

Putting these ideas together, I believe that spending just five minutes a day training your brain can yield significant benefits in your everyday life. If we can incorporate short, focused exercises into our routine, we can strengthen our fundamental cognitive abilities and potentially enhance our overall quality of life. That’s exactly why we created BrainDojo—a mobile app that makes daily “practice” (or “shugyō,” as we say in Japanese) both fun and effective. We aim to help users see real improvements in their lives, from sharper thinking to smoother daily tasks.

We also designed BrainDojo to be simple and intuitive for everyone, from a curious two-year-old to an active 200-year-old. Yes, I know that’s a wide range, but we truly want it to be accessible and beneficial to all. We offer a variety of content so that training never feels monotonous. By diversifying the exercises, we hope to make daily brain training something you look forward to, rather than an obligation.

Then there’s the Zen philosophy behind it all. In Zen, small, consistent habits lead to significant transformations. We firmly believe that these incremental changes, over time, can have a huge impact on our daily lives—and maybe even guide humanity’s ongoing evolution. Inspired by that notion, we plan to keep developing new, life-changing content for BrainDojo. We’re always looking for ways to improve and welcome your feedback anytime.

By the way, this app is developed in a small company based in Morioka, a beautiful city in Japan known for its Zen-influenced aesthetic and stunning natural surroundings. We care deeply about everyday life and try to reflect that in our app design. Morioka was even selected as one of the “52 Places to Go in 2023” by The New York Times. If you ever get the chance, we’d love for you to visit and experience the blend of traditional culture and modern living here.

Ultimately, our goal is to help people live more fulfilled lives—not just economically, but also spiritually and mentally. We hope BrainDojo offers a fun, accessible way for you to train your most valuable asset: your brain. We can’t wait to see what you think.
